GMOA to launch a 24-hour strike from Wednesday morning

COLOMBO : The Government Medical Officers’ Association (GMOA) is to launch a 24-hour strike starting from 8.00 am on Wednesday Feb.08 till 8.00 am on Thursday 09.

According to Dr. Chamil Weerasinghe, Media Secretary of the GMOA the planned trade union action is to demonstrate against the government’s new tax policy and failure of authorities to address the country’s medicine shortage.

GMOA members at both state and private hospitals will not be on duty during the aforementioned period, but essential medical services, such as emergency, kidney, and children’s services will continue uninterrupted.

Several other trade unions such as electricity, water, and ports are also expected to participate.
