COLOMBO – Former Sri Lankan Ambassador in Saudi Arabia , Azmi Thassim, who has returned from the Kingdom on completion of his tour of duty on Saturday, has thanked the members of the Sri Lankan community for their cooperation during his period.
In a statement made available to the Colombo Times, Thassim said : “ I am pleased to have got the opportunity to meet and work with you over the last four years. For me, it was a wonderful experience in Saudi Arabia. As you are aware, together we embarked on a mission with an aim to bring pride to our country and to build its image in KSA.”
“We all can be proud that our combined efforts resulted in the improvement of the services of the Sri Lankan missions, introduction of new initiatives, such as, National Day events, celebrating Cultural & Religious events, making representation to the Sri Lankan Government on migrant workers’ children’s education, promotion of Tourism, Trade and Investment, Employment Promotion, Strengthening Bi-lateral and Multi-lateral relationships and more importantly, all communities worked together as Sri Lankans when our country faced natural and man-made disasters.”
“It is now time for me to move on. I sincerely hope it is not a “farewell” or “good bye”, but more on the lines “so long till we meet again”. I have enjoyed your company, courtesy, hospitality, support, contributions and guidance, and it is my firm intention to visit my friends in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia as frequently as my time would permit, at least once a year. Furthermore, I look forward to meeting you all in Sri Lanka and any other place where our paths may cross in the future.
“I have taken back fond memories of my time in Saudi Arabia, where you and your families had treated me as one of your own without any religious, cultural or political bias. This has improved and enriched me as a human being, and it is a memory I will always cherish in my lifetime.”
“I am extremely grateful for all what you have done during my stay in the Kingdom. My earnest request to you is to please give me the opportunity to continue this relationship in the future too, “he concluded.
