FIFA World Cup 2022 : Qatar On the Verge Of Elimination As Senegal Secure 1-3 Win

DOHA: FIFA World Cup 2022, Qatar vs Senegal Highlights: A dominant 3-1 victory for Senegal in the Group A match against hosts Qatar keeps their Round of 16 qualification hopes alive. However, the result has put Qatar on the brink of elimination. Only a defeat for the Netherlands in the second Group A match today would still keep the hosts alive in the tournament.

Senegal defeated Qatar 3-1 at the Al Thumama Stadium on Friday. Boulaye Dia gave Senegal a lead in the opening half, transitioning a mistake by the Qatar defender to their own advantage. His goal came right towards the end of the first half. The second half saw Senegal double their lead early as Famara Diedhiou headed past the Qatar goalkeeper off a corner. Qatar, however, maintained the tempo as Mohammed Muntari scored a goal deep in the second half. However, Senegal responded strongly and quickly as Ahmadou Dieng netted their third goal to restore the two-goal advantage. The focus will now be on Netherlands and Ecuador, the outcome of which decides the fate of Qatar in the competition. A defeat for Dutch will keep the hosts alive in the tournament.

Meanwhile, Senegal becomes the first country from Africa to record a win and the fans outside the Stadium are ecstatic about the victory.

“It was a good a performance. We were focused and the team decided to play well.We didn’t let Qatar move the ball or have time on the ball,” said a smiling Pathe Toure.

“We have to play the same way or better against Ecuador. It will be like a tournament final. Now it is time to enjoy the win and the performance,” Toure added.
