DOHA: Australia and Denmark officially round off their World Cup group stage campaigns with the anticipated victory.
Australia reached the last-16 of the World Cup after beating Denmark courtesy of a Mathew Leckie goal.
A gloomy first-half saw neither side craft out any major opportunities, and while second-half continued in similar trend until Leckie decided to intervene. Gradually, after a pair of stepovers, he shifted the ball onto his left foot and fired it low, past Kasper Schmeichel and just inside the post to put his side into the lead.
Denmark had a myriad of opportunities to level the game, and it appeared at one stage as though they had won a penalty – ruled out for offside – but Australia held out.
