COLOMBO- Minister of Industries and Plantation Ramesh Pathirana inaugurated the The FACETS SRI LANKA exhibition, which drives Sri Lanka’s gem and jewelery brand to the world will at Atrium Lobby, Cinnamon Grand Hotel, Colombo on Saturday,Jan 7.
The event will be continued from through January 9.
This time the exhibition has been organized in a grand manner attracting numerous stakeholders that range from high-profile Trade Buyers to Gemstone & Jewellery Importers, Wholesalers, Manufacturers, Retailers and Collector; representing private interest as well as leading corporations from around the world.
The Facets Sri Lanka Exhibition is organized by the Sri Lanka Gems and Jewelery Association in partnership with the National Gems and Jewelery Authority and Sri Lanka Export Development Board. Given the importance of promoting the Sri Lanka Gems & Jewellery industry, specifically the lapidary segment, EDB has undertaken for the show Promotional campaigns locally and internationally to attract buyers.
State Minister Chamara Sampath Dassanayake, Chairman of the Sri Lanka Gem, Jewellery Association Ajward Deen and Chairman Facets Althaf Iqbal addressed the gathering.
Chairman of the National Gem & Jewellery Authority Viraj De Silva, Chairman of the Export Development Board Suresh de Mel, Diplomats from Indonesia, Vietnam, Palestine and Nepal with some international buyers from 20 countries and local buyers were present at the inauguration.
Chief Guest Minister Pathirana detailed the Government’s plans for the Gem and Jewellery Industry. Saying that “ We have already strengthened the Industry with a target of $ 1 billion in exports in 2023 and we will facilitate value addition to our gems by enabling to import needed technology and equipment to boost the industry.
A committee will also be appointed to facilitate a pension plan for gem miners and other related cadres, the minister added.
