Errant Traders sell normal Samba rice as ‘Keeri’ for controlled price

A.S.M.JAVID

COLOMBO: The government last week announced control prices for some important food items as prices of essential commodities were skyrocketed over the past few months.

Traders do not sell goods at reduced prices to the people even though the government has announced the control price through the Gazette in the interest of the people.

This situation has been observed in the last few days, especially at the Fifth Cross Street retail and wholesale outlets in Colombo. People say no if they ask for some of the government’s discounted items in stores.

On Friday,Sept.10, at a shop in Fifth Cross Street, normal Samba rice  was sold for Rs. 125.00 per kilo as Keeri Samba. On the rice packets, the traders have marked ‘ Keeri’ just to cheat the consumers.
