Erik Solheim Meets Environment Minister Naseer- Plans are underway to set up a dedicated unit on Green Economy

COLOMBO: Former Norwegian Minister and International Climate Advisor to President Ranil Wickremasinghe Erik Solheim met with Ministry of Environment. Minister Naseer Ahamed on Wednesday,October 12

Ahamed congratulated Solheim on his new role and expressed that he was optimistic that Solheim’s contribution will help Sri Lanka’s green transition process in a multifaceted way.

During the one-hour discussion between the two high-level Environmental policy makers, a number of issues were taken up and agreed upon for action.

Amongst them were to provide institutional support to the Ministry of Environment to set up a dedicated unit on Green Economy and also to provide international level capacity building support for officials, environmental decision makers and other stakeholders for knowledge and skills enhancement in line with modern day global green transition best practices.

Solheim further assured minister Ahamed that Norwegian and EU assistance could be mobilized for Sri Lanka’s sustainable development effort, particularly in areas such as marine projects, and sustainable forestry .
