COLOMBO: Amidst climate change and current developments9 air pollution, Environment minister Hafiz Naseer Ahamed chaired a meeting of environment related officials on Tuesday, December 14 to discuss the ways and means of confronting the challenges in the wake of the developments.
Speaking on the occasion , the minister said : “Sri Lanka can be transformed to be an ecological superpower with a carefully carved out strategic approach, which the Ministry of Environment is now trying to provide leadership for. Sri Lanka can access the multitudes of green financing options available globally. This is something as a country we have not explored adequately. The Central Bank has published its Green Taxonomy which will enable Green Financing Frameworks to be established. H.E. the President declared as a policy measure that Sri Lanka should be exploring more sources of Green and Blue Financing and monetize some of the existing assets in this space to enable Sri Lanka to access more sources of finance. Finally, I would like to conclude by thanking the UNDP and other stakeholders for bringing this process upto this point, during which period they have done a quite a lot of work. I recognise their hard work and eagerly look forward to fructification of that hard work with the commencement of a few substantial climate financing projects in Sri Lanka in the very near future.”
