COLOMBO: The Chairman of the Election Commission said here on Tuesday, Jan.3 that the notice on calling for nominations for Local Government elections will be issued to District Returning Officers on Wednesday Jan. 04.
People’s Action for Free and Fair Elections said it was ready to take legal action against the National Election Commission if authorities fail to declare the Local Authorities Election promptly.
The Local Authorities Election is scheduled to be conducted before 20 March. President Ranil Wickremesinghe has called for electoral reforms in order to reduce the number of local government councillors.
