Curtin Colombo’s Social Impact Club and International Scholar Host Beach Cleanup Event

COLOMBO — The Social Impact Club at Curtin Colombo, in collaboration with International Scholar, is delighted to announce the successful conclusion of their beach cleanup event held on Saturday March 9 at Dehiwala Beach.

The event, which saw enthusiastic participation from volunteers representing the Curtin Colombo community and beyond. Armed with gloves, bags, and a shared commitment to environmental stewardship, participants worked tirelessly to remove litter and debris from the beach, contributing to the preservation of the marine ecosystem and the promotion of a cleaner, healthier environment.

“We are thrilled with the turnout and the collective effort demonstrated by everyone who joined us for the beach cleanup,” said Miss. Safa Haroon, President of the Social Impact Club. ” It was heartening to see individuals from diverse backgrounds coming together to make a positive impact on our environment. Events like these reaffirm our belief in the power of community-driven action.”

International Scholar, the main sponsor of the event, played a pivotal role in supporting and amplifying the club’s efforts. “We are happy that the Social Impact Club at Curtin Colombo came forward to partner with us in this meaningful initiative,” said Ms. Wathsala Wijesinghe, Manager-Student Services at International Scholar. The concept was put forward by  Keerthi Jayasuriya, CEO of International Scholar. “By working together, we can create lasting change and inspire others to prioritize environmental conservation.”

In addition to cleaning up the beach, the event also served as a platform for raising awareness about the importance of environmental conservation and sustainable practices. Participants engaged in discussions about plastic pollution, marine life protection, and ways to reduce their carbon footprint in daily life.

“We are grateful to everyone who participated in the event and helped make it a resounding success,” added Miss. Safa Haroon. “Their dedication and passion for environmental preservation are truly inspiring, and we hope to continue organizing such initiatives in the future.”
