COLOMBO : The number people who succumbed to COVID virus in Sri Lanka lowered to 72 more fatalities, the Director-General of Health Services said on Wednesday (Sep. 22).
The new development has pushed the official death toll from the virus outbreak in Sri Lanka to 12,448.
As per the data released by the Department of Government Information, the latest victims include 42 males and 30 females.
As many as 60 deaths were reported among the elderly people aged above 60 years. In addition, 12 individuals aged between 30-59 years have also succumbed to the virus infection
The Ministry of Health reported on Thursday, September 23, that another 918 persons have tested positive for the novel coronavirus.
All new Covid-19 cases reported on Thursday are associated with the New Year cluster.
This brings the total number of Covid-19 cases identified in the country thus far to 509,590.
Sri Lanka has reported a total of 451,742 recoveries from the virus so far.
