COLOMBO : The toll of people who succumbed to COVID-19 infection in Sri Lanka was 79 fatalities, the Director-General of Health Services said on Friday Sep. 24.
The new development has pushed the official death toll from the virus outbreak in Sri Lanka to 12,609.
According to the data released by the Department of Government Information, the latest victims include 41 males and 38 females.
As many as 57 deaths were reported among the elderly people aged above 60 years. In addition, 22 individuals aged between 30-59 years have also fallen victim to the virus infection.
The Epidemiology Unit reported that another 364 persons have tested positive for COVID-19 in Sri Lanka, moving the daily total of new cases to 1,146.
This brings the total number of confirmed cases of coronavirus reported in the country to 512,531.
As many as 453,689 recoveries and 12,609 deaths have been confirmed in Sri Lanka since the outbreak of the pandemic.
The Epidemiology Unit’s data showed that 46,233 active cases are currently under medical care.
