COLOMBO : The number of people who fell victim to COVID-19 infection in Sri Lanka dropped to 71 fatalities, the Director-General of Health Services confirmed on Saturday (September 25).
The new development has pushed the official death toll from the virus outbreak in Sri Lanka to 12,680.
According to the data released by the Department of Government Information, the latest victims include 32 males and 39 females.
As many as 56 deaths were reported among elderly people who are aged above 60 years.
In addition, 14 individuals aged between 30-59 years and 01 below 30 years have also succumbed to the virus infection.
The daily total of new COVID-19 cases to 1,07came down to 1.074 cases on Sunday, Sept. 26 as 327 more people were tested positive for the virus, the Epidemiology Unit of the Health Ministry said.
All new cases have been associated with the New Year Cluster.
This brings the tally of coronavirus infections confirmed in the country to 513,609.
According to Epidemiology Unit data, 46,397 active cases are currently under medical care at hospitals, treatment centres and homes.
Total recoveries from the virus infection reached 454,532 earlier today as 843 more patients were discharged from medical care upon returning to health.
