Commonwealth SG holds talk with Env.Minister in Colombo

COLOMBO- Commonwealth Secretary General Rt Hon Patricia Scotland KC who is currently in Sri Lanka to attend the 75th Independence Daycelebrationss on Fe.4 held talks with the  Minister of Environment Naseer Ahamed at the Ministry of Environment on Friday, Feb 3.

Minister Ahamed said the Discussion was mainly focused on mangrove conservation and restoration and how the Commonwealth Secretary can mobilize support to Sri Lanka’s mangroves projects and programmes under the Commonwealth blue charts.

The minister said Sri Lanka needs other Commonwealth countries to share their knowledge and experiences on mangrove restoration conservation programmes.

This support will mainly include capacity building of official involved. By imparting specialised knowledge particularly using artificial intelligence based new processes accordingly,he added.

Secretary General pledged 200 training spaces for government officials to be trained on AI based data analysis.

Secretary Dr. Anil Jasinghe ,Chairman Environment Authority Supun S Pathirage and officials from Ministry joined the Minister Ahamed at the one-hour-long discussions.
