COLOMBO ; M.S. Shumayl Arman, a young and dedicated student of Zahira College Colombo, has made history by securing the first rank in the 14th Sri Lanka Earth Science Olympiad Competition 2024, becoming the youngest student ever in Sri Lanka to achieve this prestigious honour. His exceptional performance has also earned him the opportunity to represent Sri Lanka at the International Earth Science Olympiad Competition 2024, which will be held in Beijing this August.
Shumayl, a Grade 9 student, is well-known for his unwavering dedication, determination, and hard work, have led to numerous national and international achievements. In addition to his recent accomplishment in the Earth Science Olympiad, Shumayl has excelled in various other competitions. He won bronze medals in the Junior Astronomy Olympiad 2023 and the Junior Science Olympiad. Moreover, he secured a silver medal in the International Astronomy and Astrophysics Competition 2024 (IAAC 24′).
Apart from his academic prowess, Shumayl is a versatile individual with a wide array of talents. He is an active Air Scout Patrol Leader, a young poet, a drama scriptwriter, and a young author, cadet of St John’s Ambulance Brigade, a compassionate member of the Red Cross society and a member of the Youth Wing of WNPS. His contributions and successes in these areas have won him many All-Island competitions, further showcasing his all-rounded excellence.
Shumayl’s success story is a testament to the potential and talent of young minds in Sri Lanka. We believe his achievements deserve recognition and can serve as an inspiration to other students across the nation.
