COLOMBO — The Sri Lanka Scouts Association Colombo District Branch launched its 110th Anniversary – Commemorative Stamp and First Day Cover on Friday June 7 at the Colombo Scouts Headquarters in Colombo 02.
Scouting, which today is the world’s largest and leading youth movement was introduced to the youth of Colombo District in 1914 and since then Colombo Scouting has endured to produce active global citizens who are self-fulfilled and plays a constructive role in society. Being the premier Scout District in the country, Colombo District today nurtures over 12,000 young talent aging from 5 – 26 years of age, to be change-makers in their own communities and to live up to the Scout Motto “Be Prepared”.
The event took place under the patronage of representatives from the Department of Post, including Rajitha K. Ranasinghe, Senior Deputy Postmaster General and L.G.N. De Silva, Director Philatelic Bureau as well as Key officials of Colombo Scouting including Colombo District Scouts President – M.C.M Zarook, Chairman of the Executive Committee -Sarath Chandrasiri Vithana and the District Commissioner – Amil Abeysundara. The Commemorative Stamp and the First Day Cover were designed by Rover Scout Hansith Perera and during the ceremony, Dharshana Ranatunga, Assistant Headquarters Commissioner of Sri Lanka Scout Association delivered an Insightful Keynote Address highlighting the close association of Scouting and Philately over the years.
