Colombo-Puttalam parallel road to the highway is being built at cost of Rs one billion

COLOMBO : On the Colombo-Puttalam main road, the road leading to Chilaw via Nainamadama and Iranavila, which runs parallel to the beach, is being developed to avoid traffic congestion in Wennappuwa, Marawila, Mahawewa and Madampe.

Work on the 32-kilometer stretch is currently being expedited at a cost of Rs one billion . Lanza said the next phase of work would be expedited once the 18-kilometer stretch is completed.

Under this development project, a 100 meter long bridge in Peratelpola area and an 80 meter long bridge in Thoduwawa area have been completely rebuilt.

The objective of the accelerated project is to avoid traffic congestion and to develop the tourism industry and the regional fisheries industry.

State Minister Nimal Lanza said he planned to plant trees on both sides of the beach in the coastal area to attract tourists to the area.
