COLOMBO: The Cabinet of Ministers yesterday decided to discuss with all the Mahanayake Theras to come to an agreement on the academic and administrative affairs of the Buddhist and Pali University of Sri Lanka, and to close the university until then, the President’s Media Division said.
Meanwhile, Homagama, Pitipana Buddhist and Pali University Vice-Chancellor Professor Ven. Neluwe Sumanawansa Thera has sent a detailed report on the situation at the Buddhist and Pali University to Education Minister Dr. Susil Premajayantha.
The Buddhist and Pali University was closed indefinitely from yesterday (19) due to the problematic situation related to the provision of freshers and hostels.
Professor Ven. Neluwe Sumanawansa Thera said that the report was forwarded to the Education Minister through Education State Minister Dr. Suren Raghavan. The Thera also said that they expect the support of the Education Ministry to restore the situation at the Buddhist and Pali University. They said that by 4.00 pm yesterday the lay students were informed to leave the dormitories and all of them have left the university by now.
Professor Ven. Neluwe Sumanawansa Thera said that the teaching staff is expected to come together and discuss the reopening of the university for academic activities and the changes that need to be made.-DAILY NEWS
