Bangladesh celebrates 51st anniversary of its Armed Forces Day

COLOMBO- Bangladesh celebrated the 51st anniversary of its Armed Forces Day at the Shangri La Hotel in Colombo on Monday, Nov.21

The function held under the patronage of the High Commissioner of Bangladesh, Tareq Md Ariful Islam was hosted by Defense Adviser Commodore M Shafiul Bari and his wife Dr Farhana Zaman.

Defense Secretary Retired General Kamal Gunaratne was the chief guest, while the chiefs of the Tri Forces were present a special guests.

Diplomats including the defense attaches in all missions were present at the event.

Mementos were presented to the special guests by High Commissioner Islam and by the Defense Adviser, Bari.

In his keynote address, Retd. General Gunaratne said that 1971 Liberation War in Bangladesh was one of the landmark events in the region which displayed the commitment, sacrifice and patriotism of the soldiers who laid down their arms in the battle,

High Commissioner Islam said that the defense cooperation between Bangladesh and Sri Lanka has been cordial and useful for the two countries with people-to-people participation. “ We have had several maritime and training programs for the mutual benefit of the armed forces of the two countries.

Defense Adviser Bari thanked all those who extended their support and cooperation to strengthen bilateral cooperation in the defense fields
