Ballot papers in Jaffna and Gampaha will be 23 inches long because of the large number of candidates

COLOMBO: The government press said that the longest ballot paper of the 2020 Parliamentary Election will be printed for the districts of Gampaha and Jaffna because of the highest number of candidates in these two electoral districts.

The Government Printer Gangani Kalpana Liyanage stated that the longest ballot paper of this year’s election is 23 inches.

She stated that the widest ballot papers which are 9 inches will be printed for the districts of Colombo, Vanni, Batticaloa and Digamadulla.

Liyanage said that the length and width of the ballot paper changes based on the number of political parties contesting, the number of independent groups and the number of candidates contesting each district.

The Department Of Government Printing this week commenced the printing of nearly 17 million ballot papers for the General Election.

This year, some 16 million out of the 21 million will go for polls fixed for August 05
