Afghanistan qualifies for Super 4 round – wins by 7 wickets against Bangladesh

SHARJAH: Afghanistan sealed their second consecutive win in the Asia Cup 2022 with a convincing win over Bangladesh by 7 wickets at Sharjah cricket stadium and is the first team in Asia Cup 2022 to qualify for the Super 4 round.  Afghanistan bowlers restricted the Bangladesh batsman to a modest 127 for 7 wickets in the allotted 20 overs.

Mujeeb Ur Rahman and Rashid Khan picked up 3 wickets for Afghanistan while M Hossain was not out at 48 runs for the Bangladesh. Afghanistan run chase was slow and steady however at the end of 10 overs the required run rate shot up to more than 8 runs per over. Skipper Shakib Al Hasan bowled best for Bangladesh with figures of 1 for 13 runs off 4 overs. A power packed partnership between Ibrahim Zadran (42 off 41 balls) and Najibullah Zadran (43 runs off 17 balls) saw Afghanistan reach the target with 9 balls to spare. Afghanistan ended up with 131 for the loss of 3 wickets in 18.3 overs.

The top two teams of a group qualify for the Super 4 round. Afghanistan now qualifies for the Super 4 round from Group B. The match between Sri Lanka Vs Bangladesh will now be a must win match for Sri Lanka to qualify for the Super 4.
