COLOMBO : The city of Colombo was deserted on Sunday because of the long curfew imposed in the capital to control the spread of the Covid virus in the area.
However, the authorities have given permission for the traders to get ready with their consumer items that would be in great demand among the customers who would get an eight-hour break after some 72 hours of self-quarantine stay at home during the curfew.
On Sunday, the writer covered places such as Galle Face Green,Kochikade,Court House in Hultsdorph,Pettah,Main Street and Sri Lanka Customs Department.
The city cleaners were busy cleaning the public places, while the supplier of gas cylinders were bringing a large stock of gas cylinders which will be in great demand when the customers come out of their homes on Tuesday morning.
The people were staying indoors from 6 pm on Friday and they will be coming out of their respective home only at 6 am on Tuesday.They will get an eight-hour break on Tuesday before the curfew resumes at 2 pm on the same day.
All the worshipping places such as temples, churches and mosques were closed on instructions of the government. Beggars were seen seated peacefully on the pavement without food. Restaurants were closed and no one on the road to give them charity too. But their life goes on…..
