COLOMBO – Eight people were arrested following the protest held in front of Kelaniya University by the Inter University Students Union.(IUSF)
Police Spokesperson SSP Nihal Thalduwa stated that they were arrested on the charges of not obtaining permission for the protest six hours prior.
A Thero is also among those who were arrested at the protest.
The Police Media Spokesperson mentioned that they are currently being held at the Wattala Police Station.
The protest was held demanding the immediate release of IUSF member detained under the Prevention of Terrorism Act (PTA) for protesting against State crackdown.
A tense situation arose when the Police handed over a notice to the protestors for not obtaining permission prior to the protest.
