COLOMBO: Seven of the nine Muslim remand prisoners in the Badulla jail were assaulted by a group of their inmates during their dinner time on Friday, December 10.
According to a report published in Virakesary on Friday, December 17, the Muslim prisoners were suspects of the Easter Sunday bomb blasts.
The report said that the clash had occurred when the dinner was served to the prison inmates. Seven of the Muslim prisoners were admitted to the hospital and three were discharged and the other four are being treated at the Badulla hospital.
In a joint letter addressed to the National Human Rights Commissioner, the relatives of the nine remand prisoners have requested an immediate inquiry into the incident and requested the authorities to transfer the affected prisoners to another prisoner until their case is over.
