NEGOMBO- Three wives and his own mother refused to take the body of a person who was hanged to death for drug charges.
46-year-old Weerasinghe Arachilage Jude Ravindra of Kalkadawala, Isurugama, Anuradhapura was executed in Kuwait due to drug charges.
Ravindra was hanged in Kuwait. An inquest was held in the presence of Sudden Death Investigation Officer Dr. Siri Jayantha Wickramaratne at the Negombo District General Hospital when the body of the deceased was brought to Sri Lanka.
The body of the hanged man was subsequenty handed over to his brother Weerasinghe Arachilage Samantha Perera for the final rites as his own mother also did not wish to take the responsibility.
The Judicial Medical Officer, Dr. Ilangaratna Banda, who conducted the post-mortem, in his report stated that the death was by hanging as per Kuwaiti law.
The cremation was held at Negombo Public Cemetery on Saturday, Aug.6
